Monday!!!

What did you do to prep this week? A weekly post about the various things I do to help myself and my family/friends become better prepared.

Been a long week for me…

Biggest prep decision made this week was to buy a new(to us) vehicle. Everything else was minor so here it what happened.

After having out Scion appraised for damages, it was discovered that it would either end up being totalled or fixed and given a salvage title. For those that don’t know, I was involved in a rear-end collision that messed up the back of my vehicle. We opted to cancel out the insurance claim on the car and sell it for something newer and hopefully better. We didn’t have the cash on hand to buy a vehicle flat out so the only option was to finance. The searching began and it landed us at a local dealership. I had been going after anything and everything AWD/4X4 and came up pretty empty due to costs except for a Toyota Highlander. We drove out to view the vehicle only to find it had been sold… That was ok because I spotted a “Super Black” Nissan Xterra Pro 4-X. They wanted a bit over what I was willing to pay but we pulled the trigger on it. It’s 2011 with 78K miles on it. 4X4, locking rear diff, offroad lights on the bumper and roof, cargo rack, and a 2-speed transfer case. The engine is a 4.0L V-6 that produces 260+ horsepower and 280+ ft-lbs of torque. Below you can see it next to the EMP Ford.

“The Beast” as I’m calling it.

Plans for the Nissan include CB, a light bar I received in trade, floods on the sides and rear, and possibly a winch/winch bumper. It already comes with a 2″ receiver. Also to be added will be recovery gear, shovel, tool kit, and other odd ends. It came with brand new Toyo Open Country AT tires. This is now my primary vehicle.

Nothing else mentionable comes to mind so, with that, I’m signing off this late Monday posting.

How about you?

Btw… Check out this book written by a friend of mine, Robert. Great guy, local to me, and is actually a pretty decent writer! This is a three part series based on a pandemic that ravages the city I live in. Clicking on the image of the book below will take you to Amazon where you can purchase it if interested.

  • The only thing I was able to do last week was fill a few sand bags. With the storms that came into my area and seeing what happened last year during Mathew , I decided we needed several more. It is still a work in progress, but I now have enough filled bag to go around my house two high. Some places will have thee high to keep the wall level. Another storm is headed our way. Forecasters say we have about 12 days should it come this way. Hope I have enough sand bags.
