MONDAY!!! What did you do to prep this week?

What did you do to prep this week? A weekly post about the various things I do to help myself and my family/friends become better prepared.

This past week has been interesting and a huge learning experience. The first thing I’m having to plan around is preparedness for the elderly and in my case my grandfather. My wife and I have moved in part-time to assist him in his home. My father is helping the parts of the week we aren’t able to right now. After I’m able to get out of my lease we’ll be moving in full time to help. I’ll be stocking more medical/bandaging supplies as well as food.

I picked up a small six-inch pry bar to go in my car kit. I figure it would be perfect to separate a door just enough from the frame to fish a coat hanger in or some other rod to unlock a car.

A very full blackberry bush growing at my grandfather’s property. Finds like these are essential to homesteads large and small.

Did a property walk at my grandfather’s place and found a huge patch of blackberries pictured above. To say the least, they were a pleasant discovery. Found other wild edibles including clover, dandelion, plantain, and even a couple mullein plants. The property also has a good line of sight to be able to watch the road and other homes in the immediate area.

That’s about it for me. Didn’t get a lot done in the way of actual prep items but planning and logistics for the move and future are essential to right now. There’s a lot of potentials the property has though it only sits on 1 acre. The land is great for planting so gardens are an essential. The roof had a lot of space for solar panels. The house sits perfectly for roof placement.

That’s about it for me. How about you?
